Sump pump battery backup installation adds a secondary power source to your existing sump pump system, so it keeps running even if the main power goes out – which, inconveniently, is often exactly when storms are severe enough to cause both power outages and heavy water intrusion at the same time. A standard sump pump is completely useless during a power outage without this backup, which means the exact moment you need it most is also the moment it's most likely to fail without one.
This is worth having if you've experienced a power outage during a storm and worried about your basement the entire time, if your area is prone to outages during severe weather, if you've had a flooding event specifically because the power went out and the primary pump stopped running, or if your basement holds anything you genuinely can't afford to lose to water damage. Homes that rely entirely on a single pump with no backup are one outage away from a preventable flood.
We start by assessing your existing sump pump setup to determine the right backup system for it – battery-powered backup pumps that kick in automatically when the primary pump loses power, or water-powered backup systems that use municipal water pressure to move water out without any electricity at all. We install the backup system alongside your existing pump, wire it to activate automatically without any manual intervention needed during an outage, and test the full switchover to confirm it actually kicks in when the primary system loses power rather than assuming it will.
Cost depends on which type of backup system fits your situation best and your home's setup – battery backup systems vary based on battery capacity and how long you need the backup to run, while water-powered systems depend on your municipal water pressure and connection setup. Properties in Portland, OR with a history of power outages during storms typically see the most value from investing in backup protection.
